Arsenal midfielder Santi Cazorla has declared his belief that the Gunners will sign new players this summer as Arsene Wenger steps up his bid to win the Premier League title.

Given that Chelsea clinched England’s major prize with their win over Crystal Palace last weekend this year’s edition of the Premier League has been concluded early, but Arsenal have looked in fine form during the second-half of the season and fans will be expecting that to roll over into next term.

Cazorla confidence

Chief amongst those looking to solidify Arsenal’s status as credible title-challengers is Wenger, who has at his disposal a squad bursting at the seams with creative talent. Cazorla is without doubt one of his most reliable players, and the diminutive playmaker has revealed his expectation that he will be joined by more high-profile names this summer.

"We want to improve in the Premier League and the Champions League,” Cazorla told Arsenal fan TV, as per Metro.

“I think if we play how we’ve been playing in the last 10 games then we have a great opportunity.

“I think we’ll sign new players, the team will be very strong and of course we want to win the Premier League and the Champions League.”

After a long spell of frugality enforced by the self-funded move to the Emirates Stadium, Wenger appears to have loosened the purse strings in the past two years, creating a buzz of excitement as the summer transfer window rolls around. Mesut Ozil was the flagship buy of 2013, costing a hefty £42.5 million, whereas Alexis Sanchez was bought last year for £35m.

Big buys

The acquisition of such names has proven that the Gunners can play with the big boys, and with Arsenal boasting serious potential it’s clear that with one or two marquee signings they could easily become a force to be reckoned with.

Just which area Wenger will choose to prioritise when it comes to strengthening is anyone’s guess, although the general consensus is that a defensive-midfielder is the most logical option.

Potential purchases

Francis Coquelin has been impressive since his return to the fold from a loan-spell midway through the campaign, but rumours strongly suggest Southampton’s Morgan Schneiderlin will be on his way to north London, and a move for Borussia Dortmund’s Ilkay Gundogan, who is definitely leaving the Signal Iduna Park this summer, can’t be ruled out either.

Meanwhile other speculation continues to insist it’s a new goalkeeper Wenger will be looking to get his hands on as neither Wojciech Szczesny or David Ospina have proved overly comfortable. Real Madrid’s Iker Casillas is a possible option if his club can land someone like David de Gea, whilst Stoke City’s Asmir Begovic could be available come the end of the season.

Arsenal fans, who do you think Wenger should buy? Is there any particular area that needs addressing more than others in the squad? Let us know in the comments box below.
