Earlier this week on Monday Night Raw the WWE pulled out a surprising twist when they had Dean Ambrose defeat Seth Rollins to change the triple threat match at Payback into a fatal four way.
This means Seth Rollins now faces an even bigger task, first he had to fend off the threat from Randy Orton and Roman Reigns, and now another former Shield teammate will attempt to dethrone the self-professed living, breathing future of sports entertainment.
CHANGE OF PLANS
Fans were left wondering just how long the WWE had this move up their sleeve, considering Ambrose hasn’t had a solid feud since his rivalry with Bray Wyatt ended and he was thrown in the Intercontinental Championship picture and then followed it up with a short feud with Luke Harper which culminated at the Extreme Rules pay-per-view.
The latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter has provided some information regarding this decision, and it has been revealed that the inclusion of Dean Ambrose was in fact a last minute decision, as advertisements were still promoting a triple threat match even after Monday Night Raw had taken place.
Dean Ambrose hasn’t just been thrown into this match for the sake of it, or him not having a feud and needs to be a part of the card, there is a bigger plan for Ambrose.
The reason Dean Ambrose has been added to this match is because it could lead to a heel turn for either Ambrose or Roman Reigns at Payback. The current impression within the WWE is that they need more credible main event superstars that are heel and Reigns and Ambrose could be the perfect stars to make that move.
This would be very easy for the WWE to do in a fatal four way match and it will definitely keep both stars relevant because the fans have seen what Ambrose and Reigns have done since day one. Randy Orton can easily turn heel any time he wants but the likelihood is that Reigns or Ambrose will be given the nod.
REIGNS VS AMBROSE
I believe it should be Roman Reigns who should turn on Dean Ambrose. The majority of fans have lost faith in him whilst Dean Ambrose still receives a great reaction from the fans every week because they just love his unhinged character who does whatever he pleases.
Having Reigns turn on Ambrose after the match would establish Reigns as a top heel and he’d definitely receive some loud negative reactions, even more than he already does - so it feels like the natural route to go down.
This would be great for both men, they know how to work together whilst Reigns would keep improving by working with Ambrose again. If Ambrose does take the pin on Sunday, which many fans expect and Reigns attacks him, we already have the feud set which makes Ambrose a top, likeable face with the fans on his side whilst Reigns will be the monster heel and we’ll finally hear less of those cheesy, forced promos.
