Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho could make a surprise move for Juventus veteran Andrea Pirlo this summer, reports the Independent.
It has been claimed, citing reports from Italian newspaper Tuttosport, that Pirlo, who has a year remaining on his current contract in Turin, may well leave Italy behind in the upcoming window, with Chelsea seemingly interested in bringing him to England.
Earlier this week, of course, Pirlo hinted that his time at Juventus could be coming to and end, as he stated: "Ending my Juventus story by pocketing the Champions League would be a dream come true.
"But I won't stop playing, I'll go on as long as I have the same great desire to keep training every day."
It appears, then, as Blues boss Jose Mourinho goes in search of improving his options in the middle of the park at Stamford Bridge, that he could yet swoop for Pirlo, who is now 35-years-old.
It won't be easy for the Blues to land him, however, with the same report revealing that Liverpool are also interested in his signature.
Mourinho wants spending spree
The Sun claim that Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho wants to be assured of transfer funds before committing his long term future with the club.
The report has revealed that owner Roman Abramovich is ready to hand the Portuguese tactician a two-year extension to his current deal, but it appears that Mourinho wants to be backed financially as he goes in search of improving his current squad.
There's no doubt about it, if Mourinho signs a new contract with the club and spends big this summer, then Chelsea will be the team to beat once again in 2015/16.
Chelsea could miss out on Clyne
Despite the Blues looking set to spend big this summer, it appears that they may well miss out on the signature of Southampton full-back Nathaniel Clyne.
A report from the London Evening Standard has revealed that Manchester United chiefs are confident of beating the west London outfit to the player's signature, as the transfer window edges ever closer.
The Blues, of course, already have a number of top-class defenders at the club, but it appears that Mourinho is hoping to add to his options in the defensive department.
