Thiago Silva pick his dream team

Published 7 Comments

After a frustrating early career, Brazilian Thiago Silva has well and truly enforced himself as one of the world's best defender.

Silva's big money move from AC Milan to PSG in 2012 has helped push the Parisiens into a global force.

He has been fortunate enough to play with and against some of the game's top players and, speaking to Sport, Silva gave his world XI of current stars.

Keeper and back four

In goal, Silva picked former Lyon stopper Hugo Lloris. The Tottenham keeper is known round the world for being one of the fastest players off his line, and is certainly capable of pulling off some top class saves.

Silva included PSG and Brazil team-mates David Luiz and Maxwell for the centre-back and left-back position respectively.

Former Chelsea defender Luiz moved to PSG for £50m last summer, and has enjoyed his time in Paris thus far. At left-back, Maxwell is a veteran in his position and is currently keeping youngster Lucas Digne out of PSG's plans.

The rest of the defence consists of Silva himself, while he surprisingly picked 28-year-old Mouhamadou Dabo over the likes of Dani Alves in the other full-back position.

Dabo currently plays for Ligue 1 rivals Lyon, and may be surprised to hear that Silva rates him so highly.

Three in the middle

PSG team-mate Blaise Matuidi acts as the lynchpin in Silva's team, with Frenchman Paul Pogba and Manchester United star Angel di Maria acting as the more attacking options from midfield.

Both Pogba and Di Maria have been linked with a move to Paris, so could Silva just be naming next season's PSG team?

Who's leading the line?

French duo Franck Ribery and Karim Benzema make up two-thirds of Silva's strike force, with the Bayern Munich winger and Real Madrid striker supporting the main man up top.

Unsurprisingly, the man at the spearhead of Silva's team is none other that Zlatan Ibrahimovic. Team-mates at AC Milan and now PSG, Zlatan seems like an obvious striker to choose.

Thiago Silva's XI: Lloris, Maxwell, David Luiz, Thiago Silva, Dabo, Matuidi, Pogba, Di Maria, Ribery, Benzema, Ibrahimovic.
