In England, we almost look down on the quality of football displayed in Ligue 1. We're very quick to dismiss that the French first division is a competitive league anywhere near comparable to the Premier League.
Although for a number of the teams, this is a true statement, France has always had an amazing ability of producing world class players.
The next potential big star to come out of Ligue 1 is Stade Rennais winger Paul-Georges Ntep. The quick winger has enjoyed a fruitful season with Stade Rennais this term, bagging nine goals and seven assists in 32 Ligue 1 appearances.
L'Equipe reports that Paul-Georges Ntep has visited the Liverpool training ground twice during the last week. Ntep still has two years left on his current contract at Stade Rennais, however an offer of around £8m is expected to be enough to secure the Frenchman's services.
Ntep is currently the top goal-scorer at Stade Rennais, and has bagged two more than next highest scorer, former Liverpool target, Swedish forward Ola Toivonen.
The addition of goals on the wings is something that will be key to Liverpool's success next season, with top goal scorers Steven Gerrard and Raheem Sterling having just seven goals each this campaign.
With Gerrard leaving for Major League Soccer in the summer, and the future of Sterling still unknown, someone who can come in and score goals right off the bat is something that Liverpool needs.
Ntep would be a top signing for Liverpool, but manager Brendan Rodgers still needs to sign a couple of big names in the summer transfer window if they want to finish in the Champions League places next season.
Would Ntep be a good signing for Liverpool? Who else should Rodgers bring in? Let us know in the comments!
