Was Raw in Montreal the best show of 2015 so far?

This weeks WWE Monday Night Raw came out of Montreal, Canada, and it was an action packed show.

It definitely distinguished itself from other Raw shows as of late with the red-hot Montreal crowd adding to the high quality wrestling and surprises on the show.

Top night

Firstly with Randy Orton and Roman Reigns cutting promos building up to the WWE World Heavyweight Championship match at Payback, they then took on all three members of the New Day in a 2-on-3 handicap match. Reigns accidentally speared Orton and Kofi Kingston picked up the win.

This set up the main event for Raw, where the two would face off in a singles match.

This situation was intensified by Kane's announcement that Seth Rollins would face Dean Ambrose, with J&J Security banned from ringside. The Director of Operations then added that if Ambrose were to win the match, he would be added to the WWE World Title match.

Payback set up

A back-and-forth and intense match between the two former Shield brethren ended where Ambrose swerved an attempted interference by J&J Security and rolled up Rollins to pick up the win. The WWE World Heavyweight Championship match at Payback will now be a Fatal 4 Way match between Rollins, Reigns, Orton and Ambrose, pitting all three former Shield members against each other for the first time ever.

However, the most shocking and crowd-pleasing segment of the night involved the United States Champion John Cena. Cena has been defending his title on a weekly basis since his victory over Rusev at Wrestlemania 31. This week was no different, but who was to answer the call?

new man

Shock hit the Montreal crowd when WWE Hall of Famer, and Montreal native, Bret 'The Hitman' Hart came out to confront John Cena. He was about to announce a surprise challenger before he was interrupted by Heath Slater who was then hit by The Hitman due to his rude interruption and the legend then continued. He introduced a home-town boy, and a bright star on NXT,  and crowd favourite...Sami Zayn.

The crowd erupted as the former NXT Champion entered the arena. Clearly emotional, Zayn overdid his entrance and injured his shoulder hyping up the crowd.

Despite this, Cena and Zayn had a fantastic back-and-forth match, with the challenger displaying some impressive moves, which have made him such a loved character, especially amongst the hardcore fans.

And despite Zayn losing his first singles match on the main roster, Zayn looked fantastic and impressive in defeat. Once he makes his full-time step up to the main roster, the sky is the limit with Sami Zayn, with the crowd already behind him and his wrestling ability there for all to see.

Hopefully the WWE machine gets fully behind him so he can become a major star for years to come.
