How a team uses its first pick of the draft can have a huge impact on how their season will pan out.
Pick wisely and your top prospect could catapult your team up the standings, see the player falter and you could be back in the same position in 12 months time.
Unfortunately for the Jacksonville Jaguars it looks like the latter may be more likely now after terrible news regarding third overall pick of the 2015 draft, Dante Fowler Jr.
GiveMeSport reported on the breaking news that Fowler had to be carted of the Jaguars practice field mid-way through his first practice session at minicamp. Now the worst case scenario appears to have played out with reports claiming the former Florida DE has been ruled out for the entirety of his rookie season.
It goes without saying that this is a cruel blow for both Fowler and the Jacksonville franchise with many fans of the franchise, not to mention the coaching staff, having been excited by the prospect of the young star giving the team a pass rushing edge that has been lacking in recent seasons.
Here is the moment Dante Fowler went down during the 11 on 11 drill earlier today:
Having played all three years of his college football without every having missed a game, the cold hard fact of the matter is that Fowler will not be available for any of the jaguars 16 regular season outing in 2015.
Even if surgery and subsequent rehab go according to plan the months of rehabilitation to get the left knee back to full strength will still likely span beyond the end of the calendar year.
NFL fans: How do Fowler and the Jags bounce back from this?
