It's been a hectic off-season for the Cleveland Browns to say the least.
The quarterback position has been in a constant state of flux after Brian Hoyer decided he'd rather fight for a spot with the Houston Texans than be the Browns starter. Josh McCown was brought in after his sorry spell at Tampa Bay to compete with Johnny Manziel who has just been released after a stint in rehab.
Manziel's rookie season was incredibly poor, with his partying habits nearly destroying his young career. However, there may finally be some good news about the Heisman winning QB.
According to a report from Mary Kay Cabot of Cleveland.com, Browns offensive co-ordinator John DeFilippo has waxed lyricial about Manziel in a recent interview, much to the delight of Browns fans everywhere.
"Johnny's been great,'' DeFilippo said. "He's been fantastic. What he wants to talk about, before he stepped foot back in this building is his business. All I know is Johnny the football player, and he's been awesome.
There was talk during Manziel’s rookie year that he wasn’t taking his job seriously enough. But DeFilippo, who was hired this offseason, says he hasn’t witnessed any of that.
“All I know is this: From the moment he stepped in this building from the last two weeks, he’s been nothing but a consummate professional,” DeFilippo added...I can’t predict the future, but all I can do is tell you right now Johnny Manziel is putting himself in a position to be a quarterback in the NFL.”
Everything coming out of the Browns camp so far regarding Manziel has been completely positive. We'll have to wait and see for depth charts to be released before we can truly judge if Manziel has managed to salvage his career and reputation.
