Last week on Monday Night Raw the WWE Payback main event was changed from a triple threat match, to a fatal four way with The Lunatic Fringe, Dean Ambrose now thrown into the mix.
The Director of Operations, Kane announced the stipulation just before Seth Rollins’ match with Dean Ambrose on Raw, that if Ambrose won then he would be included in the main event making it a fatal four way and as we now know, he rolled-up Rollins for the victory.
FATAL 4 WAY
On paper Seth Rollins still remains the favourite to retain his WWE World Heavyweight Championship, as it’s highly doubtful the WWE would put the gold on someone else especially after Rollins’ incredible cash-in at WrestleMania 31, but there’s a slight chance that something else might be the big talking point at the conclusion of the Payback pay-per-view.
Last week it was reported that the reason Dean Ambrose was inserted into the title picture – as a late addition – was because the WWE are planning a heel turn to occur during or after the main event match.
Naturally Roman Reigns would be the first option to turn heel considering the WWE Universe has turned on him, and a heel turn would be good for his development and boost his chances of becoming the WWE World Heavyweight Champion.
Turning Randy Orton heel again – as easy as it is – would be too simple and pointless considering he’s already turned on The Authority and still has unfinished business with Seth Rollins which effectively rules him out.
Dean Ambrose could also turn heel which is what the fans were calling for a number of years ago due to his character, but there’s a chance that both Roman Reigns and Dean Ambrose could turn heel.
Ever since the inclusion of Dean Ambrose, a number of fans have called for and predicted that we could be set for a Shield reunion at Payback, and there are a number of ways this could play out.
COULD THE SHIELD REUNITE?
The most obvious and likely way it could happen is that both Ambrose and Reigns turn on Randy Orton, and simple realign themselves with Seth Rollins.
The Shield could return to separate themselves from The Authority as we have seen some tension between Rollins and The Authority, or The Shield could compete under the banner of The Authority.
I feel that a Shield reunion in necessary, especially for Roman Reigns and Seth Rollins as a reunion could be in place in preparation for the return of Brock Lesnar who will surely be gunning for Seth Rollins and having J&J security in your corner isn’t really going to protect you from The Beast Incarnate, but having Reigns and Ambrose in your corner is a different story altogether.
Who knows, maybe this could have been The Shield’s plan all along? They’ve got the WWE World Heavyweight Championship and they’re not planning on letting it go.
