Jameis Winston is one of the most talented rookie quarterbacks to have arrived in the NFL in the 21st century.
Winston showcased his talent on the field during a stellar college career, while he has earned praise and comparisons with Peyton Manning for his football IQ.
His ability on the field is the main reason why he was selected first overall in the 2015 NFL Draft last month by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, while his off the field issues weren't enough to prevent him going number one overall.
Surprised and excited
The Buccaneers were obviously excited by the talent that Winston has displayed during his two years with the Florida State Seminoles, but in rookie camp with the team in the last few days, senior personnel have been more than impressed with the quarterback's ability.
Furthermore, in an interview with USA TODAY on Monday, Bucs GM Jason Licht explained that he has been surprised at how quickly Winston has adapted to the pros.
“I told my wife, Blair, ‘I gave him an A,'” Bucs G.M. Jason Licht told USA Today. “I thought it was a great day. He knew the offense already. He wasn’t overwhelmed.
"He was even a little ahead of the game. He was already trying to change protections. The coaches were like, ‘Wait up. Hold on.’ You’re right. But the other guys aren’t there yet.”
It wasn't just Licht that was praising Winston, with head coach Lovie Smith also stating on Monday that his new quarterback is a born leader.
“That’s a leader,” Smith said. “That’s a trait you’re looking for in your quarterback, a guy who can bring the group together. That’s definitely him.”
