New England Patriots' fourth Super Bowl win is becoming more and more tarnished with every day.
Last week, The Ted Wells Investigation found that Brady was "generally aware" that staff on the Patriots team tampered with balls during their AFC Championship Game win over Indianapolis Colts in January.
As a result of the findings of the investigation, Brady has now been banned for four games for his part in the deflategate saga.
However, the Patriots have now released a strong statement backing quarterback Tom Brady after he was hit with the ban by the NFL.
Patriots owner Robert Kraft has backed Brady, and criticised the NFL's investigation for being one-sided and only based on circumstantial evidence.
"Despite our conviction that there was no tampering with footballs, it was our intention to accept any discipline levied by the league. Today’s punishment, however, far exceeded any reasonable expectation. It was based completely on circumstantial rather than hard or conclusive evidence.
"We are humbled by the support the New England Patriots have received from our fans throughout the world.
"We recognize our fans’ concerns regarding the NFL’s penalties and share in their disappointment in how this one-sided investigation was handled, as well as the dismissal of the scientific evidence supported by the Ideal Gas Law in the final report. Tom Brady has our unconditional support. Our belief in him has not wavered."
Meanwhile, Giants quarterback Eli Manning has explained that he agrees with the NFL's decision but that he will be sad to see Brady suspended.
“I don’t like to see anybody get suspended, I don’t like to see anybody get in trouble, so in no way am I glad to see this happen,” Manning told the New York Daily News.
“I think it is about integrity and you have to follow the rules. So if someone’s breaking rules I understand they’re going to get punished.”
