On his day, Juan Mata is one of the best attacking midfielders in world football. The same can be said for his Manchester United and Spain team-mate David De Gea. And Mata wants to see his compatriot stay at Old Trafford next season, despite reports of a summer transfer to Real Madrid, reports the Mirror.
David De Gea has been the standout performer for Manchester United this season, and was picked ahead of Chelsea stopper Thibaut Courtois for a place in the PFA Team Of The Year. De Gea has kept 10 Premier League clean sheets this campaign.
Mata has been a very important player for United this season, and is finally starting to show his worth and he hopes that his side can push onto a higher level next season, but believes the club's ever-present De Gea will be vital to their Premier League ambitions.
"I don't know. To be honest, I don't know.Ask him because I don't know." Mata told IBT.
"I understand how important he is for us. Against Crystal Palace he proved it again with a save that gave us the three points.
"I wish him to stay. Being selfish, I obviously hope him to remain with us. He gives us many points."
Manchester United defender Phil Jones also praised the performances of David de Gea this season and, like Mata, wants the Spanish keeper to remain at the Theatre of Dreams.
He's world class, there's no doubt about it. For me, he is the best goalkeeper in the world," Jones said.
Jones, then, in regards to De Gea's future, went on to say "Obviously the decision isn't up to me, but he's a massive player for this club. Hopefully he'll be at United next season."
