Manchester United could hand incoming star Memphis Depay the No.7 shirt this summer if Angel di Maria departs the club.
This has been reported by the Mirror, who claim that Di Maria could leave Old Trafford in the upcoming transfer window after a season to forget on English soil.
The Argentine international, despite a wonderful start to life in Manchester, has endured a torrid time of late, failing to secure a regular place in Louis van Gaal's side.

It appears, then, that if Di Maria does give up on his United career, then PSV man Memphis Depay could take on the famous shirt, previously worn by the likes of Eric Cantona, David Beckham, Cristiano Ronaldo and Co.
Depay, of course, has often been compared with Ronaldo, who left the Theatre of Dreams in a stunning deal to Spanish giants Real Madrid in 2009.

The Dutch international, of course, looks set to complete a move to Manchester United sooner rather than later after his club accepted a bid from the Premier League giants for his signature.
And there's no doubt about it, his imminent arrival will excite the Red Devils faithful after his glorious campaign which has seen him score 22 league goals.
Play them both
But should the Red Devils hierarchy really look to move Di Maria on after just one season? Well, let's be honest, thing's haven't exactly gone to plan for the Argentine, especially in recent months, but he may well still have a lot to offer the club as they go in search of long term success under Van Gaal and Co.
After securing a club record fee for the former Real Madid man, the United chief shouldn't give up on the versatile midfielder just yet. It's no secret that United have been in a transition phase in recent time, so perhaps Di Maria will prove his credentials in a more settled side.
If Van Gaal can get Di Maria back to his best, while finding a place for Depay in his new-look side, then Manchester United will be quite the attacking force next season.
One thing's for sure, if Depay stays at Old Trafford for a long period of his career, then he may well get his chance to take on the famous No.7 shirt one day, but it shouldn't be just yet.
