Saint Etienne midfielder Fabien Lemoine has been quoted saying he'll never play for a club like Manchester United after penning a new long-term contract with the Ligue 1 outfit.
The 28-year-old's tongue-in-cheek comments were in reference to his modest reputation as one of the most under-rated players in France, having failed to ever really capture attention from any other teams abroad.
Despite his low profile Lemoine is highly regarded by those who've worked and played with him, particularly after contributing two goals and four assists in 33 league appearances this term.
Speaking after the confirmation of his extension the Frenchman declared his delight at signing a new deal with Christophe Galtier's side after praising the set-up at Stade Geoffroy-Guichard as perfect for continuing his development.
"I took the decision to extend because I found an environment that suits me," he was quoted saying by Le10Sport. "The club trusts me, he gave me the opportunity to express myself on a level that I had never acquired.
"Despite the departure of last season, we continue to fight for Europe. We have high-level structures with the training center, the stadium. There are not many of Geoffroy Guichard in France.
"There are also some insight on my part: I will never play for Manchester United."
Manchester United fans won't be too worried as Louis van Gaal seems to have a number of marquee additions lined up for transfers to Old Trafford this summer. So, the Red Devils' loss is most definitely Saint Etienne's gain.
Van Gaal wants Harry Kane
Louis van Gaal has placed Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane at the top of his summer transfer wish-list with Manchester United ready to pay £45 million to prise the recently crowned PFA Young Player of the Year from White Hart Lane.
The Red Devils have already secured the signature of PSV Eindhoven's fleet-footed forward Memphis Depay and are now planning a move for the highly-rated Premier League marksman.
Bale IN, Di Maria and Van Persie OUT
Manchester United will attempt to offload Robin van Persie and Angel di Maria this summer to make room for Gareth Bale's prospective arrival at Old Trafford.
Real Madrid's Welsh winger is wanted by Red Devils boss Louis van Gaal this summer, but he must balance the books to bring the former Southampton and Tottenham Hotspur star to the Theatre of Dreams.
