Chelsea prepare surprise summer move for Edin Dzeko

Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho is considering a surprise summer move for Edin Dzeko after identifying the Manchester City striker as an ideal replacement for Didier Drogba at Stamford Bridge.

According to the Sunday Mirror, the Blues believe they can sign the Bosnia & Herzegovina for as little as £10 million after the Citizens received zero enquiries at their original asking price of £15 million.

The 29-year-old has been linked with a host of top European clubs including Juventus, Inter Milan, Borussia Dortmund and VfL Wolfsburg, but it now looks as though he could remain in the Premier League by making a surprise switch to west London.

City will be reluctant to sell to a domestic rival and so they'll probably hold out for an offer from one of the aforementioned foreign suitors.

However. if Chelsea are the only club that come calling then the former Wolfsburg marksman could conceivably be playing for the newly crowned champions next term.

Dzeko has endured a disappointing 2014/15 campaign at the Etihad Stadium after contributing just six goals and has fallen out of first-team favour under Manuel Pellegrini.

The January signing of Ivorian talisman Wilfried Bony appears to have pushed him even further down the pecking order and so a departure when the transfer window reopens this summer appears inevitable.

But, after signing a new long-term contract with Manchester City last summer, the striker will only be sold on the club's terms, with three years still to run on his existing deal.
