Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal has two summer priorities, with the Dutchman hoping to sign French midfielder Paul Pogba and keep the services of goalkeeper David de Gea.
This has been reported by The Guardian, who claim that the Red Devils boss has the funds to complete a club record signing for the Juventus midfielder.
Pogba, of course, left Old Trafford for nothing back in 2012, but has gone from strength-to-strength in Serie A, and could now return to the club in an astonishing deal worth as much as £71.5 million.
It appears, then, that Pogba is the club's No.1 transfer target in the midfield department, but the report does go on to reveal that United could yet reignite their interest in the player's midfield partner Arturo Vidal or move for Borussia Dortmund man Ilkay Gundogan, if they fail to lure the Frenchman back to England.
De Gea to stay?
Keeping De Gea is also something that the United chief sees as a priority. The Spanish international has arguably been the club's most consistent player over the course of the past two years, but faces an uncertain future with Spanish giants Real Madrid seemingly interested in his signature.
The Spaniard is set to run out of contract at United at the end of next season, so the United hierarchy will no doubt be hoping that they manage to agree a deal with the player sooner rather than later.
And, there's no doubt about it, if Van Gaal manages to sign Pogba and keep De Gea, then it will prove an incredible summer for the Red Devils. At the end of the day, Frenchman Pogba would only improve the Red Devils in the midfield department, whilst De Gea may well become the best goalkeeper in world football over the coming years.
It's certainly an exciting time to be a Manchester United fan, and it looks set to be an extremely busy summer for all those involved in the club.
