We are a few short days away from WWE’s Payback pay-per-view. While that is looking like a fantastic event, NXT’s next Take Over show, Unstoppable, is shaping up to be a phenomenal show as well.
The last few NXT Take Over events have not disappointed, the most recent being Rival. At Rival, we saw Kevin Owens, who two months to the day after his debut became NXT Champion as well as other stellar matches and moments.
This show should be no different, and if anything, it may be better. Here are some of the matches already announced for the card.
RHYNO VERSUS BARON CORBIN
On last weeks taped NXT show, Rhyno squared off against Bull Dempsey and one gore later was victorious. Rhyno then took a microphone and issued a challenge to Baron Corbin, whom he would at this past Wednesday’s show call the “other unstoppable force of NXT.”
These two finally met face to face this past Wednesday. Rhyno asked Corbin “Are we gonna do this or what?” Baron’s reply was a right hand to Rhyno’s face and the two went at it. The locker room and security spilled out to the ring to separate the two most intense competitors on the NXT roster. What will happen next week at Unstoppable when these two finally square off in what is being called by many as a dream match? It is hard to call.
BECKY LYNCH VERSUS SASHA BANKS
Last week we saw the chaotic contract signing for the NXT Women’s Championship making Sasha Banks and Becky Lynch official. These two have a long history together at NXT as not only teammates, but also who could forget the incredible fatal four way for the Women’s Championship at Rival when Sasha Banks won the title.
Becky Lynch would then square off against Charlotte and Baylee for the Number One Contenders spot on an episode a few weeks back and emerge victorious. This match is going to be amazing.
DANA BROOKE AND EMMA VERSUS CHARLOTTE AND BAYLEE
This match was made on this past Wednesday’s show. Charlotte and Baylee issued the challenge over comments made by Dana Brooke the week prior and the continual taunting and head games played by Emma to Baylee.
Dana’s comments were in reference to Charlotte being the diva selected to star in the new WWE inspired Tap Out commercial that has been airing on WWE programming, citing it should have been her in it and not Charlotte.
Meanwhile, over the last couple of months since Emma’s return to NXT, she has been getting into the head of Baylee, expressing concern that Baylee may by too nice and that she needs to change her ways. Since then, Emma has stolen a t-shirt and trademark headbands from Baylee and cost her a match against Dana Brooke. This match is going to be interesting.
TYLER BREEZE VS. HIDEO ITAMI VS. FINN BALOR
This match up has some interesting twists involved in it. While it is not known yet if Hideo Itami will be able to compete in it or not because of his shoulder injury, it will be a great match up.
It is no secret that Balor and Itami are long time friends that have wrestled all over the world together, and Tyler Breeze is a phenomenal competitor that has an amazing future ahead of him whether he wins this match or not.
This past Wednesday’s show featured a tag team match with Balor and Itami squaring off against Breeze and Adam Rose. Balor and Itami were seemingly not on the same page, which was a result from the week before when Itami inadvertently booted Balor in the face in a one on one match against Breeze.
Regardless of the reason, Balor and Itami were a team this past Wednesday. Breeze and Rose picked up the victory, which led to Breeze super-kicking Itami, doing his Beauty Shot finisher to Balor and super-kicking Rose for the heck of it. Again, while it is not yet known the fate of the triple threat match at Take Over, this match is going to be awesome. The winner will face the champion, which regardless of who wins, will be a great matchup.
KEVIN OWENS vs SAMI ZAYN
This match, just like the triple threat has a lot of questions surrounding it. Will Sami Zayn be able to compete? You will remember, last week on Raw, Zayn debuted against John Cena for the United States Championship, which resulted in what is being called a rotator cuff injury.
Zayn said in an interview right after that match, which was aired this past Wednesday, that it started when he came out to the ring and threw his arms up like he normally does in his entrance.
He would then say that he felt something weird, but it was later aggravated when Cena did his trademark side suplex. The fate of his long awaited rematch against Kevin Owens is still in the balance, leaving a couple of questions: How severe is the injury? What will happen if Zayn cannot compete?
This past Wednesday the two met face to face. Zayn asked Owens the question that has plagued him since R-Evolution: Why? He laid out a few “is it because of this or this” scenarios.
Owens would leave the ring without looking at him and said:
“Everything you just said is completely irrelevant because I know the truth. After I took the NXT title from you, you went home and you told everyone that you needed to clear your head. But, I know it was because you were hurt. I know you’re still hurt. I know I’m the one who hurt you. I know exactly what the injury is. And I know how I hurt you. And at Take Over, I’m going to do it again. But this time, this time you’re not coming back.”
And he left. This match has more than just the championship surrounding it. These two men have wrestled all over the world together and know each other better than they know anyone. They were once best friends. This match, if it is able to happen, is going to make the show.
Can Sami Zayn compete? If the answer is no, what will WWE plan to do for the championship match? We will know next week.
