Manchester United have virtually sealed the deal with regards to Memphis Depay’s transfer to Old Trafford this summer, as the midfielder’s medical went swimmingly.
As was expected the 21-year-old, who is one of the most exciting young talents in Europe following a tremendous season at PSV Eindhoven, had no issues in passing the medical examination needed for any prospective transfer to go through.
This comes after United agreed a fee with PSV to the tune of £25 million, although that could rise by as much as another £8m depending on appearances and success.
Depay will become Louis van Gaal’s first signing of his second summer in charge of the Red Devils, and quite possibly the flagship addition as the Dutchman prepares an assault on the Champions League for next year.
At the end of the season Depay looks all set to join United as a result of the passed medical - brought to our attention by the Daily Mirror - and in doing so will add yet more creative flair to a midfield that already contains the likes of Juan Mata, Angel Di Maria and Ander Herrera.
Van Gaal plans
As a result United fans will look on next season with optimism, given that their club is sure to spend more money by the time the summer transfer window ends. A host of targets have supposedly been drawn up by Van Gaal as he looks to strengthen his team, and some of the names on the list will be more than enough to excite supporters hoping to see more progress made.
Without doubt it’s the defence that many are expecting to be an area Van Gaal immediately addresses, with the trio of Phil Jones, Chris Smalling and Jonny Evans having failed to impress this term.
It’s all well and good adding more attacking players to the fold but if David de Gea isn’t given more cover next season competing with the some of the clubs in the Champions League will be virtually impossible.
Borussia Dortmund’s Mats Hummels is believed to be the priority target given his wealth of experience at the highest level, and the fact that Jurgen Klopp is leaving the Signal Iduna Park means a transfer is feasible.
United fans, now that Depay’s arrival is virtually guaranteed who do you want to see purchased by Van Gaal? Let us know your thoughts in the comments box below.
