Liverpool are ready to rival Chelsea for the signature of Edin Dzeko this summer after Brendan Rodgers identified the Manchester City striker as a player to add some much needed firepower to his attacking ranks at Anfield next season.
According to the Daily Mail, the Citizens will let the 29-year-old leave the Etihad Stadium for £25 million, and the Reds are willing to meet that asking price in order to bring the Bosnia and Herzegovina international to Merseyside.
Dzeko has fallen out of first-team favour under Manuel Pellegrini this season and has not featured for City since the 2-0 win over West Ham United on 19 April.

The January arrival of Wilfried Bony has pushed the former VfL Wolfsburg marksman further down the pecking order, and he's said to already be making plans to quit the dethroned Premier League champions when the transfer window reopens at the end of the current campaign.
Liverpool are in desperate need of reinforcements this summer following confirmation that injury-plagued talisman Daniel Sturridge will remain sidelined for the start of next season.

And, with Mario Balotelli and Rickie Lambert both struggling to reproduce their best form on Merseyside, Rodgers is planning to completely overhaul his front line ahead of 2015/16.
Lambert, Balotelli and Fabio Borini will all be made available for transfer in order to boost the club's summer budget, with Burnley striker Danny Ings and on-loan Belgian forward Divock Origi both expected to play at Anfield next term.
One player that might not be part of Rodgers' squad though is Raheem Sterling, following reports in the press today that he's told the Northern Irishman he wants to leave Liverpool.
However, the potential acquisition of a proven Premier League striker in Dzeko is something for Liverpool supporters to be much more happy about, particularly if they beat rivals Chelsea to securing his services.
Jose Mourinho has been mooted as an admirer of the Manchester City man as well, but might struggle to convince the player that he'll get as much game time at Stamford Bridge due to the presence of Diego Costa, Loic Remy and Didier Drogba.
