Luiz Suarez to meet old enemies in Champions League final

Published 2 Comments

The Champions League Final between Barcelona and Juventus will take place in two weeks' time. The final will see the reuniting of two old enemies with the first meeting of Luis Suarez and Giorgio Chiellini since the Uruguayan famously bit the Italian in their final group game at the 2014 World Cup.

Alongside Chiellini, the former Liverpool forward will also play against Patrice Evra for the first time since the Frenchman left England for greener pastures with Juve. Evra and Suarez have a past after Suarez allegedly racially abused the defender during a Premier League game between Liverpool and Manchester United

Bizarrely, Chiellini was not the first person that Luis Suarez attempted to bite, he wasn't even the second. Luis Suarez had previously bitten two other people before he decided to chew on Chiellini's neck.

He had bitten both Branislav Ivanovic and Ottman Bakkal in the past, making this a very serious incident. Suarez was banned from all football for eight whole months meaning that he wasn't even allowed to attend training from the end of the World Cup all the way through to November, meaning that he missed the majority of Barcelona's Champions League group stage campaign.

It will be very interesting to see how those two get on during the final, whether or not they shake hands at the start will be a good barometer of whether or not they have moved on from the incident.

Old enemies

The same thing will apply with Suarez and Evra - the forward famously refused to shake the France international's hand the next time they met after the alleged racial incident. So it will be interesting to see if those two have put their differences aside.

I get the feeling it will be a spicy affair, especially with those two coming up against Suarez, I think they will be after some form of revenge and I reckon that Suarez's legs will be repeatedly kicked and hacked at all evening.

Champions of Europe

In terms of the actual game itself, I can't see the Old Lady turning over the Catalan giants in Berlin. They will surely be too strong for the Italian side. Lionel Messi, Neymar and Suarez were too strong for Bayern Munich and Pep Guardiola, so they're almost certainly going to be too strong for Juventus and Massimiliano Allegri.

Juventus have a great attack with Alvaro Morata and Carlos Tevez both being in great form at the moment, scoring in the semi-final tie to knock out the reigning champions, Real Madrid.

Ultimately, they will have to keep Barcelona and their phenomenal attack out and Bayern couldn't even do that so they have no chance. Italian teams tend to play three at the back and Juventus would be absolutely foolish to play that same system. Playing three at the back against that attack would be very naive because they would easily tear them apart.

Either way, Luis Suarez is going to be very much under the spotlight because of his dealings with Evra and Chiellini, it will be very interesting to see how he deals with it. Will he keep his head? Will he keep his teeth to himself this time? I can't wait to find out.
