The girlfriend of Borussia Dortmund midfielder Ilkay Gundogan has made Manchester United fans very excited with one of her latest Instagram posts.
Silas Sahin posted a photo of an airport departures board displaying ‘Manchester’ alongside the caption “Wo bin ich?” - which, translated into English, means “Where am I?”
This prompted a host of excited United fans to post comments welcoming Gundogan to Manchester - although it’s fair to say they may have jumped the gun with their messages.
As the excellent Sport Witness explain, Sahin was actually in Majorca rather than Manchester when she took the photo.
She was merely at a luggage carousel waiting for her bags from Dusseldorf - the other location displayed in the image - which was also being used by a flight from Manchester.
Man United rumours
Sahin may have innocently posted the photo without knowing the implications of doing so and it probably won’t be too much longer before the image in question is deleted due to the amount of people leaving comments.
But she must be aware that her partner has been strongly linked with Manchester United in recent weeks.
It was even widely reported last month that Gundogan was due to sign a contract with the Red Devils, with a deal to take the Germany international to Old Trafford reportedly in place.
Gundogan has since told Borussia Dortmund that he will not be extending his contract with the Bundesliga outfit, but Manchester United could still miss out on signing the 24-year-old.
Barcelona in pole position
Catalan newspaper Mundo Deportivo reported on Thursday that Gundogan has passed a medical with Barcelona ahead a potential summer transfer, although the recently-crowned La Liga champions would be unable to register the classy midfielder until January 2016 due to their existing transfer ban.
The likelihood of Barcelona agreeing to loan Gundogan, who missed almost the entire 2013-14 campaign through injury, back to Borussia Dortmund for the first half of next season appears slim.
What would happen, for example, if Gundogan was to suffer another serious injury while playing for Borussia Dortmund on loan from Barcelona? The deal would be far from straight-forward and it’s hard to imagine such a complex deal being agreed.
But that doesn’t mean he won’t sign a deal with Barcelona this summer. He could end up training with his teammates until the New Year instead.
Manchester United, though, may attempt to lure him to Old Trafford with the promise of regular first-team football from August onwards.
