Manchester City goalkeeper Joe Hart has expressed his admiration for the 'fantastic' James Milner, and wants the versatile midfielder to remain at the Etihad.
The 29-year-old, a free agent this summer, finds himself at the centre of a tug-of-war between a variety of clubs following rumours of his departure, with Liverpool said to be leading the chase for the England international.
And according to talkSPORT, Hart would love for his countryman to remain at the club where they have played together for five years.
He said: "That's me being totally selfish, but James has got his own decisions to make.
“I would never stick my nose in because it's a football decision at the end of the day, but I certainly wouldn't be kicking up a fuss if he did stay.”
City have reportedly offered Milner a lucrative four-year extension on his contract worth £165,000-per-week, which, if true, suggests that the Manchester outfit are desperate to hold on to their utility man.
Full of praise
“On the field, I think he's a fantastic player and someone I've really enjoyed playing with for years and years having worked with him at U21 level," Hart continued.
"He's a really, really, really talented footballer. It's easy to say he's a hard worker, but there's so much more to him than that.
"He's a big part of our squad and brings a lot to the team."
Milner, one of City's more consistent performers, would be a great loss to the Manchester side, though the incentive of a regular starting role for a big club like Liverpool could prove all-too-tempting for the former Aston Villa man.
