Tom Brady and the New England Patriots have had a turbulent couple of months.
Ever since the Patriots beat out the Indianapolis Colts in the AFC Championship Game in January, Brady and the Pats have been plagued by claims of cheating.
It is safe to say that any troubles Brady and his team have faced in the last few months have been more than comforted by the presence of a fourth Super Bowl trophy, but nonetheless, the star quarterback's reputation is in tatters following claims he ordered staff to deflate footballs.
What is really going on?
The Patriots have a history of cheating, with the spygate scandal in 2007 being case and point. Like in 2007, the Patriots have also been stripped of draft picks, but quarterback Tom Brady has also been banned for four games by the NFL.
Following the suspension, the Patriots have displayed themselves as a tight-knit unit headed by owner Robert Kraft, who pledged his unwavering support to Brady.
Revealing the truth
However, this perception clouds reality, according to Ron Borges of the Boston Herald. In an appearance on CSN New England's Sports Tonight, Borges claimed that Bill Belichick actually doesn't believe Brady's defense against the deflategate scandal, and this fact is why the Pats haven't appealed against their draft picks punishment.
“[Coach Bill] Belichick never believed [Brady’s] story, from what I was told,” Borges said, according to ProFootballTalk. “Because they all know. Why do you think all those retired quarterbacks, the Troy Aikmans of the world — Troy Aikman is about as nice a guy as I’ve ever met in football — nobody’s backed [Brady].
"Nobody, not a single guy. Why do you think that is? Because they hate Brady? No. Because they’re not stupid. They know nothing’s done with those balls that the quarterback doesn’t want done.”
These comments could be perceived to be very controversial or completely on the money, but only Brady knows what really went down back in January.
