Arsene Wenger has revealed intentions to strengthen his squad wherever possible this summer in order to bolster Arsenal's title bid next season.
The Gunners have enjoyed their most successful season for quite some time all-but securing third and reaching the FA Cup final for the second year running, but still require two or three high-calibre signings to challenge for the Premier League crown.
And it would appear that Wenger, who has somewhat loosened the purse strings in recent years with the signings of Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez, is ready to suitably prepare his squad to compete with the likes of Chelsea and Manchester City.
The Frenchman told reporters: "We are ready to spend the money for players who strengthen our team. There is a difference in that and just spending money.
"If I ask you who has spent the most money this last season and if I give you last season, and the season before, it is never the teams who have won the championship.
"You have to be careful sometimes not to rate the players only by the amount of money they cost but just look at their performances."
TIME FOR CHANGE
A goalkeeper, centre-back, defensive midfielder and striker are regarded as priority signings for the north London side by a vast array of pundits, though Wenger believes that improvement in any position would be welcomed.
"We are in a position where we just want a player with an exceptional quality in any area that can strengthen us," he continued.
"The depth of squad is important and any world class player in any position can help us achieve what we want to achieve."
Arsenal conclude their Premier League season at home to West Brom on Sunday, with an FA Cup final against Aston Villa on May 30.
