Despite being in the WWE for thirteen years now, Randy Orton still finds himself at the top in Vince McMahon's company.
Orton was in the main event of the Payback Pay-Per-View alongside Dean Ambrose, Roman Reigns and current champ Seth Rollins, which ended with Rollins getting the pin on Orton after some interference from Kane.
However, things could have been so different for Orton, who spoke for the first time about his real struggle with drug abuse in his past.
The WWE posted a preview for the upcoming WWE Beyond the Ring feature from the Randy Orton - The Evolution of a Predator DVD. In the clip they put on YouTube, Orton reveals all about how difficult he was early in his career and the part that drugs played in that.
"All life was for me for a couple of years was how I was going to get f-cked up, it was pretty dark and gloomy and pretty sad," Orton said. "I had these problems, I had these things in my life that I was doing that could have potentially killed me."
Orton has a well documented history with drugs, but mainly steroids rather than recreational stuff. Back in 2007, Sports Illustrated published an article on its website detailing steroid use in sports and wrestling.
That article mentioned several current and former WWE wrestlers, including Orton who was alleged to have obtained clomiphene citrate, anastrozole, and the steroids stanozolol, nandrolone, oxandrolone, and testosterone.
Orton is an eight-time WWE Champion and a four-time WWE Heavyweight Champion who still gets a great reception from WWE fans wherever he goes. Despite whatever happened in his past, Orton will surely go down as a Hall of Famer and generational talent.
