Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal is ready to relinquish the services of both Robin van Persie and Angel Di Maria this summer in a bid to shave an astonishing £500,000-a-week off the wage bill.
That’s according to the Daily Mirror, who highlight United’s supposed interest in Gareth Bale as the driving force behind the fact that Van Gaal is willing to let two of his most reputable names leave Old Trafford.
Two players exodus
With Di Maria and Van Persie both taking home £250,000-a-week each at the moment and each producing relatively poor performances during the last campaign, neither man is said to be completely safe in Manchester.
On top of that United are said to have received sufficient encouragement that a deal for Bale can indeed be struck, leaving Van Gaal with a difficult decision.
If he lets go of the aforesaid duo he will certainly have the financial clout to land Bale, though whether or not the Wales international will actively seek to leave Spain remains to be seen. The winger was a hit at the Santiago Bernabeu during his first season and there must remain some desire to win over the fans before he calls time on his La Liga career.
At the same time there will be plenty of suitors for both Van Persie and Di Maria, the latter of whom was staunchly pursued by Paris Saint-Germain last year.
In the case of Van Persie Van Gaal is ready to listen to offers in a bid to get him off the wage bill as quickly as possible, though for Di Maria any potential suitors will likely have to pay close to £50m for United to sell.
