Former Manchester United winger Park Ji-Sung believes the Red Devils’ latest signing Memphis Depay has the talent to emulate Cristiano Ronaldo at Old Trafford.
Park, who now works as an ambassador for Manchester United, briefly played alongside Depay at PSV Eindhoven before hanging up his boots at the end of the 2013-14 campaign and feels the Netherlands international possesses the qualities required to become a global superstar.
Depay will link-up with his new Manchester United teammates this summer after Louis van Gaal gave the green light for the club to complete a £25 million transfer earlier this month.
"He’s still a young player – only 21 years old – but I played with him and he has so much potential: he has strength, passing ability and skill," Park told MUTV, according to the Mirror.
"Some people say he’s like Cristiano Ronaldo and I can imagine that – he really has the desire to be the best player and United can help him achieve that. It’s a really good signing for both him and the club, and I’m sure he’ll show his quality for us."
Depay enhances reputation
Depay has scored a magnificent 28 goals in 40 appearances for PSV this season, earning him the Eredivisie’s top scorer award. He was also named as the Dutch Football Talent of the Year - an accolade previously received by the likes of Arjen Robben, Wesley Sneijder and Christian Eriksen.
He will find himself competing with the likes of Adnan Januzaj, Ashley Young and Angel di Maria for a place on the wing next term - although Louis van Gaal may take a closer look at what he can do as a central striker in pre-season.
