Arsenal want to land Petr Cech this summer but Arsene Wenger is going to have to pay over the odds if he is to convince Jose Mourinho to sell to a Premier League rival. That’s the claim coming today from Goal.com, where it’s said that Chelsea are vying to resist the Gunners and would much prefer to offload him to an overseas outfit. Of course Cech would probably want to stay in London in order to keep the change in his life to a minimum, and Wenger is keen on recruiting him as Arsenal don’t have a world-class stopper. The consequence is that it can be assumed the Gunners will agree to pay in excess of Chelsea’s basic valuation, but don’t expect them to be held to ransom. Elsewhere Karim Benzema is also thought to be on Wenger’s hit-list. The Real Madrid man is facing an uncertain future not helped by the fact that Carlo Ancelotti has been sacked by Los Blancos, although he would cost somewhere in the region of £35m.
