Manchester United are considering a bid for Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema as Louis van Gaal looks to solve the team's problems in front of goal, reports The Guardian.
The France international has been in fine form for Los Blancos this season, scoring 22 goals in 46 games and contributing ten assists across all competitions.
Van Gaal is aware that Benzema would cost around £40m to prise away from the Bernabeu and is also aware that continued interest from Arsenal could cause them problems.

Arsene Wenger has been a long-term admirer of Benzema's and has once again been linked with a move to the Emirates.
The 27-year-old is tied down to Real Madrid until 2019, but the sacking of Carlo Ancelotti has left question marks over his future.

Having seen the club go an entire season without winning a major trophy, president Florentino Perez will need to appease fans with a big signing and that could be a striker.
Manchester United are aware that any new manager at Real Madrid will leave some players facing a potential exit and they are hoping Benzema falls into that bracket.
While Manchester United did well to finish in the Premier League's top four, there were significant concerns over the sharpness of their attacking line.
Radamel Falcao, who has since returned to Monaco after an unimpressive loan spell, scored just four goals in the league, leaving the Dutchman with little choice but to reject the chance to sign him permanently.
But Wayne Rooney, Robin van Persie and James Wilson only faired slightly better. Together they scored 22 goals and it was that chronic lack of goals that stopped them finishing higher.
Places up for grabs
Falcao's exit from Old Trafford means there is a place for a world-class striker in the squad and there are also significant doubts over Van Persie's future.
That would secure almost £500,000-a-week in wages and allow Van Gaal to offer Benzema a key role in the team.
With Benzema having already won everything on offer in La Liga and entering his prime years, a new challenge in the Premier League could be a tempting proposition.
However, his strong relationship with Wenger could mean the Gunners have the edge in this transfer battle.
