Gary Cahill believes Diego Costa has what it takes to become the next Didier Drogba at Chelsea as the Ivory Coast striker prepares to leave the club for the final time.
Drogba has enjoyed two successful spells at Stamford Bridge and brought an end to his time as a Chelsea player after lifting the Premier League trophy on Sunday.
He will end his time at Chelsea with 164 goals in all competitions, including the famous equaliser against Bayern Munich in the Champions League final, and deservedly go down in the club's history.
Drogba, 37, has played something of a cameo role this season and that is down to the exploits of Diego Costa.
The Brazilian-born striker scored 20 goals in his debut season as a Chelsea star and Cahill believes he has already shown that he has what it takes to follow in the footsteps of Drogba.
Big shoes to fill
"I know it's the second time Didier's been here but obviously it's sad that he's played his last game for the club," he told the club's official website.
"They're big shoes to fill but Diego couldn't have started his Chelsea career any better"
"He said a few words before we left the hotel, it was only brief but it was good.
"I'm sure one day we'll see him back at the club. I don't think he's gone forever but probably from a playing point of view that was his last game.
"They're big shoes to fill but Diego couldn't have started his Chelsea career any better.
"He's had a couple of injuries but nevertheless his goalscoring ratio has been phenomenal.
"He'll be a big player here and with Diego in the team you're a far better side."
Time to score more
With 20 goals in the bank, Costa has scored four more (16) than Drogba managed during his debut season at Stamford Bridge.
However, all 20 of those goals came in the Premier League and his lack of form in the Champions League let the Blues down.
While the Premier League title is a huge achievement for the club, Mourinho will be desperate to win Europe's biggest prize with his beloved Chelsea.
Costa won't be considered in the same bracket as Drogba until he can inspire such a triumph.
Has Diego Costa got what it takes to match the achievements of Didier Drogba?
