With Manchester United supporters gearing up a summer of transfer buzz and Louis van Gaal sure to be desperate to prepare his side adequately for the challenges they’ll face next season, there isn’t a body connected to Old Trafford who won’t be excited.
Keeping that in mind we’ve got plenty to fuel the anticipation, with today’s papers and web stories providing plenty of gossip to keep United supporters ticking over until the transfer window opens and mere speculation can either be dismissed or confirmed as happening.
It’s difficult to tell you to keep your feet on the ground in this period of pre-market uncertainty, but do your best.
Leading the charge we’ve got the latest on Aston Villa's Christian Benteke, who you might remember has been linked with a surprise switch to United in recent weeks.
The Belgium international is supposedly on the radar at a host of top clubs, including Liverpool and Arsenal also, and it’s now been claimed that he is ready to leave Villa Park on one condition.
The Daily Mail reports that the 24-year-old, valued at a relatively pricey £30 million, is ready to take his career to the next level by way of moving to a bigger club, but only if he’s handed assurances that he will be a regular first-team starter at his new stomping ground.
Louis van Gaal might not be able to offer him that given that he’s already got the likes of Wayne Rooney, James Wilson and Robin van Persie on his books, but it’s likely to be a saga brought to an end depending on the Dutchman’s stance.
Sir Alex on Chelsea
In other news Sir Alex Ferguson has made a claim about Chelsea that few Red Devils fans will willingly back. The legendary ex-United manager stated that he believed the Blues were set for a sustained period of success, and described Jose Mourinho as a ‘winner’.
Ferguson, who was at the time handing out Mourinho’s award for being named the Premier League’s Manager of the Season, threw his support behind the idea that Chelsea’s domestic success this term wouldn’t just be a flash in the pan. Not what fans have come to expect from the fiery old Scot.
LVG's De Gea doubts
Rounding off our report we turn to the astonishing report that Van Gaal had doubts over David de Gea when he first arrived at Old Trafford.
The Spaniard has been arguably the best performer for United this year, but Van Gaal has admitted that when he first took over the helm he was unsure as to his capabilities.
