San Diego fans have been to hell and back this offseason following plenty of speculation and rumors surrounding two of their star players.
Reigning Chargers Defensive Player of the Year Eric Weddle is currently locked in a battle of sorts with San Diego over his contract situation, with the star safety demanding an extension.
But the more worrying situation for the Chargers in the last couple of months has come from the talk relating to Philip Rivers' future.
Sense of relief
Rivers has previously stated that he will let his contract run out this season, with many experts making the conclusion that he is looking to escape from a franchise that looks to be headed to Los Angeles - a move that Rivers is known to be uncomfortable about.
However, in and amongst all of the negative vibes out of San Diego, Philip Rivers made a statement on Wednesday that will offer Chargers fans a great deal of relief, with the star quarterback declaring his commitment to the cause.
“You put in 11 years here, and we haven’t accomplished the ultimate goal,” Rivers told ESPN.
“There’s been a lot of great memories, and a lot of awesome games, seasons, friendships, training camps and on and on. So that would be awesome [to stay]. Obviously, as players none of us can choose how we all want it to work out. But if that’s how it works out, I’d be fired up.”
Even though Rivers doesn't specifically talk about whether or not he is currently engaged in contract talks with the Chargers, his comments do however prove the likeliness of him staying beyond 2015 is increasingly possible.
