Iker Casillas has issued a big statement about his position as Real Madrid's first choice keeper, claiming that no matter what happens with David De Gea, he'll still be Number 1 at the club.
Casillas, speaking with AS in Spain position has never truly been in doubt up until the rumours about De Gea's future at Man United started circulating, however the Spanish Number 1 is confident he can hold off any competition for his shirt.
"I would hold off another goalkeeper because I am competitive. But there will never be a problem between myself and Real Madrid."
Real Madrid have endured a difficult season and have some of their big names to blame for underperforming.
With a new manager to be announced this week it looks as though a big shake up could be a solution to the problem and long term target David De Gea is a top priority for Los Blancos.
Casillas has mentioned his close relationship with De Gea and has never had an issue with the player being linked with the possibility of taking his position however Casillas now 34 has been at the club since the Youth Academy and is eager to finish his career with Real, still the number one choice in goal.
"There's no clause in my contract which says I have to start I have to compete and fight. I would like to finish my career here, to win titles."
One of the clubs most decorated players and great goalkeepers of the generation is finishing off his 16th season at Real Madrid and admits that although players come through Real at an alarming level, they have to be ready for fight for the club and be passionate about playing.
"What I want and desire is for the good of those who come to the Santiago Bernabeu, the people who call this club their home."
De Gea is expected to decide on his future in the coming weeks while Madrid try and regroup after an astonishingly poor season in La Liga. Casillas has set out his intentions for the imminent arrival of David De Gea, although he is not willing to step aside for the position he has for so long held down comfortably.
