Marcus Mariota had an outstanding college football career that was capped by his Heisman Trophy win in 2014.
Mariota led the Oregon Ducks for three years and dominated on the field, so much so that he was drafted second overall by the Tennessee Titans last month.
Arriving on the NFL scene with such a reputation, Mariota knows that there is plenty of pressure on him. First and foremost, the star quarterback will want to impress his teammates, something which he already seems to be doing.
The quarterback is noted for his athletic ability, but it seems as though even his teammates have been surprised with how athletic he is. After Tennessee's first session of OTAs, linebacker Zach Brown remarked at how fast Mariota looks and he explained that he and his teammates were really impressed with the talented QB.
"He is faster than I thought," linebacker Zach Brown said Tuesday after the team's first session of OTAs, per the Tennessean. "He is an athletic quarterback. He didn't win the Heisman for nothing."
"One time he took off -- I was guarding (tight end) Delanie (Walker) -- and I turned around and I was like, 'Where is he?'"
"Mariota described his first practice with NFL veterans as "definitely different" and "a lot faster" than anything he experienced during his 41 games at Oregon," NFL.com reported.
As well as Mariota's speed, Brown also added that Mariota's calm and collected approach to football is notable and assuring for the rest of the team. Though Mariota will obviously go through some rookie stumbles, the linebacker says Mariota is yet to get frustrated despite the step up.
"He is fast. He impressed me. He is still a rookie and he has to learn, but he is a cool guy. I haven't seen him get frustrated yet," Brown added.
