West Ham United will be playing in Europe for the first time in nine years after being granted a place in the Europa League for next season - but must progress through the qualifying rounds.

West Ham have to start the the competition in the first qualifying round, due to them qualifying through the Fair Play system.

This means their season starts only five weeks after the domestic season ends. The club are to discover their opposition when the draws for the first and second qualifying rounds are held on June 22 and will play their first qualifying match on July 2.

Following the departure of Sam Allardyce, the owners at the club are yet to appoint a new manager. If they are to appoint a new manager before the tiring qualifiers begin, they need to appoint a manger who has experience in Europe.

The experience can come from former Besiktas boss Slaven Bilic as the Croatian has been heavily linked with the club in recent weeks, has previously helped his former employers defeat Liverpool in the Round of 32 of the same competition.

Can Europa League damage a season?

The second edition of Europe's club competition has been regarded by some to be damaging. Although Hammers' fans maybe looking forward to their team competing in Europe, but will be aware of its negative consequences. Due to the daunting schedule, some teams often have to play two matches in the space of two to three days.

West Ham must learn from Merseyside duo Liverpool and Everton who saw their season crumble. In the 2013-14 campaign, before taking on the continent, Liverpool and Everton finished second and fifth respectively. However, this season their final league positions were less glamorous.

How far can they go?

In the resent past Fulham too had booked their place in through the Fair Play standing, but only managed to progress to the Group Stages before crushing out. Progression to the Group Stages looks likely for the Hammers, they can go even further and give this competition a right go.

If they were to go all the way and win the Europa, they would open the doors to the dream land, and Champions League football. But we will have to see as the adventure is just about to begin.
