Manchester City are still hopeful of convincing contract rebel James Milner to stay at the Etihad Stadium beyond this summer, and are willing to pay him an eye-watering £165,000-a-week in wages to snub offers from Arsenal and Liverpool.
The England international has been heavily linked with a move away from the recently dethroned Premier League champions after growing increasingly frustrated about his lack of regular first-team action.
Gunners boss Arsene Wenger wants to bring Milner to the Emirates Stadium and will be able to guarantee him more frequent minutes in north London, despite the strong competition for places in his current midfield department.

Brendan Rodgers, meanwhile, sees the 29-year-old as an ideal replacement for departing captain Steven Gerrard at Anfield, and is confident he can lure the versatile star to Merseyside.
Moving to Liverpool will mean Milner need not leave the north west, whereas a switch south to Arsenal would require him uprooting his family closer to the capital ahead of the 2015/16 season.

It's understood the Leeds United graduate is not motivated by money - despite the massive offer on the table - just the prospect of playing consistent Premier League football, which he's often found difficult to come by at Manchester City.
Manuel Pellegrini picked Milner more frequently in his starting XI towards the end of the campaign, but that was probably in an attempt to sway him to stay and sign a new deal.
However, with the Chilean's long-term future in England by no means certain it's unclear how much impact that will have on the player's eventual decision before his contract expires in around one month's time.
"James is in charge to say when he will make his decision," the former Malaga boss was quoted saying by the Manchester Evening News. "That is when he finishes his contract with our club, which is the end of June.
Discussions were held with Citizens chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak after the final game of the season against Southampton last weekend, but as it stands Milner is still no closer to penning an extension.
