Chelsea have made contact over the signing of former Manchester United striker Radamel Falcao, according to Goncalo Lopes.
The Portuguese journalist has revealed that the Blues have stepped up their interest in the Monaco forward, insisting that the club will sign him if boss Jose Mourinho gives the green light.
Falcao, of course, endured a torrid debut campaign on English soil as he spent a season on loan at Manchester United. Scoring just four goals, the Colombian hitman, who struggled on the injury scene before his move to Manchester, failed to hold down a place in Louis van Gaal's starting XI throughout the course of the campaign, and was ultimately sent back to France at the end of the season.
It appears, though, that he could return to the Premier League sooner rather than later, with Premier League champions Chelsea seemingly interested in his signature.
The Blues, of course, are set to lose veteran Didier Drogba for the second time, so are in need of added competition, with the duo of Loic Remy and Diego Costa already plying their trade at Stamford Bridge.
The saga regarding the future of the ex-Manchester United man may well rumble on for some time, but it certainly appears that the west London outfit are interested in the forward.
Lopes tweeted: "CFC contacts for @FALCAO. #Sky #DiMarzio."
His followup tweet revealed: "Chelsea will get Falcao....if Mou wants him. #CFC."
A huge risk
Of course, details regarding any potential move to Chelsea are yet to be revealed, but signing Falcao would prove a huge risk for Mourinho and Co. At the end of the day, the Colombian failed to produce the goods on English soil last term, but he may well return fitter and stronger in 2015/16.
In truth, though, Falcao looked off the pace after his nightmare injury spell, so he may well find it difficult to ever get back to his best. If Chelsea go out and spend big on him, then it would come as a huge surprise, while a loan deal would seemingly be costly, considering his wages.
One thing's for sure, Mourinho must add another striker to his ranks in the near future, but perhaps he'd be making a mistake signing Falcao. Only time will tell, of course. He could yet haunt Manchester United.
