Arsenal have joined a host of clubs monitoring talented defender Cédric Soares.
The German-born Portugal international has starred for Sporting this season, attracting the attention of scouts from Barcelona, Inter Milan, Bayer Leverkusen, Schalke, Wolfsburg and Arsenal.
The Gunners have a long-standing interest in the 23-year-old dating back to last year and the report claims they weighed up a move for him in the January transfer window.
With Carl Jenkinson seemingly set for an Arsenal departure this summer after spending the season on loan at West Ham, the Gunners could be in the market for a right-back.
Hector Bellerin has emerged as a star at the position, but Mathieu Debuchy’s chequered injury history is a concern for Arsene Wenger. Allied to the fact that Debuchy is approaching his 30th birthday and the Gunners boss could move for Soares before interest heats up.
Soares is out of contract at Sporting at the end of next season and reportedly does not intend to renew with the Portuguese giants.
As such, Arsenal could secure him at a cheaper than market value rate - although the presence of so many other rival suitors may drive up his price slightly.
A Bola suggest a bid in the region of £5m could be forthcoming from Arsenal, although whether that would be enough to persuade Sporting to sell is another matter.
That would likely just be an opening offer, but a fee in that region would represent excellent business for a young defender who has three caps for his country.
His current release clause is €30m, but Sporting will not be getting close to that thanks to his contract situation.
What do you think Arsenal fans - is Soares a good option or is right-back not even a position Wenger needs to strengthen?
