Signing Radamel Falcao instead of Christian Benteke would hand Chelsea the opportunity to improve their squad in other areas of the pitch, with the club set to target the Atletico Madrid duo of Antoine Griezmann and Koke.
This has been reported by the Mirror, who claim that the Stamford Bridge outfit are in talks with Falcao over a move to Stamford Bridge, as the club go in search of improvement in the attacking department.
Didier Drogba, of course, has left the club behind for the second time, so Mourinho is in need of a third top striker, with Diego Costa and Loic Remy already at the club.

It appears, then, that Falcao could be that man, with other target Benteke rated at the huge fee of£32.5 million.
Perhaps bringing the Colombian to the club would enable the Chelsea hierarchy to spend in other areas of the pitch, bit it remains to be seen as to whether they will be able to persuade Atletico to sell Griezmann and Koke.

Chelsea and Atletico have quite the history in the transfer window, of course, after Blues boss Jose Mourinho recruited the duo of Costa and Filipe Luis in last summer's window. Griezmann and Koke, then, would no doubt act as fine signings for the west London outfit, with both players having impressed on the domestic and European scene in recent time.
It's far from certain as to whether the club will step up their interest in either player anytime soon, but it appears that the club will look to secure the signing of Falcao first.
There's no doubt about it, however, landing Falcao would prove a huge risk for the Blues as they go about adding to their strike force. Ultimately, the Colombian's debut campaign on English soil proved a disaster as he found the back of the net on just four occasions.
Failing to establish himself as a regular in the Manchester United side, the forward lacked confidence and struggled to prove his credentials in the Premier League. Perhaps, though, Mourinho really believes he can get the best out of the striker, who most certainly has a point to prove.
And, if landing Falcao hands the Blues the chance to sign Griezmann and Koke, then they will have quite the squad as they go in search of retaining the Premier League title and winning next year's Champions League competition. One thing's for sure, it looks set to be another exciting summer for supporters of the club.
