Manchester United are set to begin their influx of star signings this summer by making offers for La Liga duo Karim Benzema of Real Madrid and Pedro of Barcelona.
According to Daily Star, the Red Devils will table a double bid around £55 million to lure them to Old Trafford.
Rival Premier League club
Premier League rivals Arsenal are the frontrunners to land Benzema but Van Gaal is now ready to rival any other suitors by testing the resolve of Los Blancos with the huge offer.
Benzema himself would command a transfer fee of £40 million which the Premier League side will be willing to pay. United have released Colombian forward Radamel Falcao following a disastrous spell, scoring only four goals in the entire season.
Robin van Persie meanwhile will enter his final year of his current contract this summer and after limited chances this term, Van Persie could be set for exit doors at United.
So that would leave Louis Van Gaal short of options in attack with Wayne Rooney the only choice; Mexican striker Javier Hernandez too doesn’t feature in the Dutch manager’s plans.
De Gea crucial in the deal
The Guardian reports that United could also use Real Madrid’s interest in David de Gea and could use the Spanish goalkeeper as a makeweight in any deal.
It is not the first time Benzema has been linked with a move to Old Trafford. Sir Alex Ferguson was also a huge admirer and enquired of his availability during his Lyon days as well as when he became a Real Madrid player later on.
The Frenchman signed a contract extension until 2019 last summer, as per the Telegraph, Benzema’s ability to provide link up play and being a potent finisher from inside the box, he would add depth to any club he plays for. Benzema played 46 games for the Galacticos this term, scoring 22 goals in all competitions.
Pedro set to move
Meanwhile,Pedro is ready to drop curtains to his Barcelona career and is considering his options with Arsenal, Inter Milan and Liverpool interested. Valued around €20 million, according to Transfermarkt.com,Pedro could be available for a much lesser fee of £7million due to a clause in his contract with the Catalan giants.
Pedro majorly played as a back-up during the entirety of 2014-15 with Luis Enrique favouring Neymar,Suarez and Messi to form the front three and with Euro 2016 next year, the 27-year-old want more regular first-team football in order to guarantee his place in Del Bosque's Spain squad.
A La Masia youth product,Pedro played his entire senior career till date at Camp Nou and in 2014-15 season appeared in 47 matches, scoring 11 goals.
It remains to be seen if Van Gaal gets his wish and land the duo to send a signal of intent as Manchester United enter Champions League action for the first time in the Dutchman’s reign.
