A very good morning Arsenal fans, we hope we’re not distracting you from your post-FA Cup final celebrations.
In fairness to us the weather outside is bleak as Tottenham Hotspur’s trophy cabinet has been of late, so what else do you have to do but revel in the latest gossip concerning camp Arsenal?
Since you’re unable to respond as a collecting we’re going to assume you’re doing nothing. So here it is, your daily Gunners news roundup, complete with a video of myself for those of you who can’t be bothered to read.
For as long as Jackson Martinez has been a reputable name in Europe. Arsenal have been linked with attempts to sign him, that’s generally just how it goes. With speculation over his future hotting up though the Colombia international has taken things to another level by confirming that he now has permission to leave Porto.
Arsene Wenger has spoken candidly in the past about how good it would be to have Martinez, who routinely bags over 20 goals a season in Portugal, and with the Gunners in need of an out and out finisher he could be the perfect man to add more momentum to the title charge they’re set to launch next season.
The latest confirmation ensures that Porto won’t be standing in Wenger’s way if he decides to make an offer, and Martinez might well relish the chance to strut his stuff in the Premier League. Those factors combine to make for very pleasant reading from Arsenal’s point of view.
Walcott the striker
Meanwhile new details of Theo Walcott’s demands in his most recent contract talks will have surprise absolutely nobody. It’s said the pacey winger has told Arsene Wenger he wants to be given assurances that he will play as a strike, but as of yet it’s unclear if Wenger will consent.
In fairness to Walcott he did score the opener in the FA Cup final, as well as having bagged a hat-trick during the last Premier League game of the season, so if he’s ever going to be handed the chance to lead Arsenal’s line it’s right about now.
Last but certainly not least the Gunners have been dealt a huge blow in their pursuit of Morgan Schneiderlin, depending on whether or not you believe the rumour-mill. It’s now purported that he has told close friends he wants to join Manchester United ahead of making a move to the Emirates Stadium. We know right, speculation sucks.
