Manchester United have had a €150 million double offer for Real Madrid duo Gareth Bale and Raphael Varane turned down according to reports in Spain.
The Red Devils are expected to spend big in the summer having already secured Champions League football for next season.
They spent £150 million last summer and will splash the same again this time round - indeed they are seemingly trying to do that with one double deal. El Mundo Deportivio say that they have made their move for Bale and Varane, however Madrid have knocked them back.
The paper claims that Real Madrid aren't willing to sell any of their players before the arrival of new boss Rafa Benitez, who should be announced as Carlo Ancelotti's replacement shortly.
The former Liverpool boss is likely to want to keep Bale as he looks to help Madrid win the league title and win back the Champions League crown they relinquished this year.
Bale has been linked with a move to Manchester United for some time, stretching back to his time with Tottenham. The Welshman was booed by sections of his own fans last season after a string of lacklustre performances however he has publicly insisted that he wants to stay put.
There are more doubts about Varane, who has struggled for game time this term with Sergio Ramos and Pepe ahead of him. Chelsea have also been linked with the young Frenchman in the past, but the Red Devils are desperate to land a new centre-back in the summer window.
Borussia Dortmund's Mats Hummels was considered a top target but he seems set to stay put, while Valencia's Nicolas Otamendi has also been suggested as an option.
£150 million is a huge offer for these two players but Madrid would be foolish to sell up at this point. They have invested too much money in Bale to give up on him after just two seasons while Varane is considered one of the best youngsters in Europe.
Manchester United, who have already signed Memhis Depay, are going to splash some serious summer cash, but if they want to sign some Real Madrid players it won't be these two.
