We begin in the NBA where the Golden State Warriors have been handed a huge boost ahead of their NBA Finals series against the Cleveland Cavaliers. With less than 48 hours to go until tip off in Game One, star shooting guard Klay Thompson has been cleared to play having passed the league’s concussion protocol. Sticking with the NBA, and the Chicago Bulls have announced the hiring of Fred Hoiberg as their new head coach less than a week after the dismissal of Tom Thibodeau. The 42-year old, who has no previous NBA head coaching experience, arrives from Iowa State and has signed a five-year deal worth $25 million. Across to the NFL and the Carolina Panthers have handed franchise quarterback Cam Newton a record breaking new contract. The $67.6 million Newton will earn over the first three years of a five-year deal worth over $103 million is an NFL record.
