The Cleveland Browns would have been seriously hoping to have a quiet off-season ahead of the 2015 season.
After a season where Johnny Manziel crashed-and-burned in his attempt to become an NFL starting quarterback and Josh Gordon returned from an 11-game ban to get himself suspended for a further entire season, the Browns will have been hoping for Manziel to just get his head down, work hard and try to finally learn the playbook.
Well, that was always going to be impossible, with Manziel getting in to an incident with a heckler at a recent golf tournament. But Browns teammate Joe Haden has jumped to Manziel's defense, hitting out at Cleveland fans in the process.
Haden spoke to Mary Kay Cabot of the Cleveland Plain-Dealer, where he expressed his incredible frustrations with Browns fans who just won't leave Manziel alone following his exit from rehab, six weeks ago.
"I'm walking around with Johnny and we're leaving a little restaurant, we're walking back to valet going to the car, and then, you just hear, 'How was rehab?' '' Haden said after OTA's yesterday.
"I'm like, 'Dude, you're just getting at him when we're chilling, leaving the restaurant,' so it's just negativity that people are trying to get a reaction out of him, and it's upsetting,'' Haden said.
If there is one thing that Johnny Manziel needs like a hole in the head after finally doing something about his struggles, it is fans asking and goading him about the spell he spent in rehab trying to calm those demons.
So maybe Haden has a point. Asking a person who is still recovering how rehab was, is a bit like asking someone how the funeral they just attended was. It really is just incredibly crass behaviour and goes beyond all social boundaries.
