Memphis Depay make a claim sure to leave Wayne Rooney unimpressed

Published Add your comment

He’s not even played a second of football for Manchester United yet but Memphis Depay is already making boasts that might be difficult to back up. The Dutch international, who finished as the Eredivisie’s top goalscorer this year with PSV, has said that he believes he would have scored more goals than any United player were he taking to the field for Louis van Gaal this season. More specifically Depay claimed he could have scored 15 goals in the Premier League this year, which for you stats hounds is one more than United’s top goalscorer, Wayne Rooney, managed himself. Big claims, but can he do the business? We’ll see next season. Other, rather speculative news, suggests this morning that United could make a £25m bid for Raheem Sterling. The youngster’s future has yet to be formally decided, though we’ll admit it would quite the surprise to see him turning out at Old Trafford on a regular basis next year.
