The Baltimore Ravens managed to reach the playoffs last year for the first time since reaching the Super Bowl, but were narrowly beaten 31-35 by the eventual champions, New England Patriots.
The Ravens will need Joe Flacco to be at his absolute best if they want to make it any further this season, and the quarterback will surely have to improve on his 19 touchdown, 21 interception season if that is to happen.
But for Flacco to guide the Ravens to more playoff success he needs to be actually out on the field. Which is why Baltimore head coach John Harbaugh got incredibly angry at OTA's today.
Urban's Faux Pas
According to a report from Jamison Hensley of ESPN.com, defensive end Brent Urban was pulled from practising with the first string defense after he got "too close" to making contact with Flacco.
Urban, who was filling in for the absent Chris Canty on the first string, came close to making contact with Flacco and was seen celebrating with Timmy Jernigan afterward. Turns out this makes John Harbaugh pretty irate.
“It was Brent’s second time, so he was sent to his room for a couple of plays," coach John Harbaugh said. "But we do like to keep our guys away from the quarterback -- that’s good. He was a little too close, and then he was celebrating it."
"That’s what sent me over the edge. It’s like, ‘Do you not understand what we’re doing here?’ But he has practiced really well."
Urban will compete against the incumbent Canty for the starting job in training camp and preseason. A fourth-round pick out of Virginia last year, Urban missed his entire rookie season after tearing his anterior cruciate ligament during training camp.
At 6-foot-7, 295 pounds, Urban has the perfect build for a modern day defensive lineman and could well be a five technique player for the Ravens for a long time, that's if he stops getting in John Harbaugh's bad books.
