Jose Mourinho has so far been the driving force behind Chelsea's bid to sign Radamel Falcao on loan from AS Monaco, reports Goal.

The Colombian striker failed to impress during a loan spell with Manchester United, scoring just four Premier League goals in 26 appearances.

Louis van Gaal had an option to make the deal permanent for €55m but unsurprisingly chose to send him back to Ligue 1.

But despite his failure to rekindle his best form following a serious knee injury, Chelsea are now primed to seal a very similar loan deal for next season.

The reason behind Chelsea's interest is Mourinho, who is convinced he has what it takes to get the best out of the 29-year-old.

Big risk

It is a big risk and it is understood that his poor form has hardly increased the amount Monaco are asking for another loan deal.

Chelsea are closing in on a deal worth something similar to the €35m Manchester United paid including a €10m fee and the excessive £265,000-a-week wages Falcao comes with.

The Blues are hopeful of negotiating a discount and it has also been mentioned that they could agree to send some players in the opposite direction.

Another story

Another South American who could be arriving at Chelsea this summer is wantaway Shakhtar Donetsk midfielder Douglas Costa.

The 24-year-old has previously mentioned his desire to play at Stamford Bridge and leave the ongoing conflict plaguing Ukraine.

Now Costa has reiterated that desire by saying: "Eventually the time comes when you get tired of playing always in the same league.

"I’m 24 years old and it is worth trying to tell people that I want to go.

"We have a wonderful coach in Mircea Lucescu, but I think it’s time for a change and I think Mourinho is the best in the world."

And another one

Jose Mourinho is 'crazy' about talented youngster Bertrand Traore, according to Vitesse head coach Peter Bosz.

The young striker has, like many Chelsea hopefuls, has spent the season out on loan in the Eredivisie but has been backed to return to Stamford Bridge and take up a place in the first team.

The Vitesse boss stated: "Jose Mourinho is crazy about him. If the opportunity is there, they prefer to take him back."

Traore scored 14 league goals this season.
