Galatasaray have dropped their interest in Arsenal outcast Lukas Podolski and will not be making an offer this summer, the club's manager Hamza Hamzaoglu has confirmed.
Podolski is set to return to north London after a six-month loan spell at Inter Milan but Arsene Wenger is believed to be keen to get him off the books as soon as possible.
The Germany international is one of the club's highest earners at £100,000-a-week but has done little to prove he is worth such a wage this season.
Arsenal are ready to sell Podolski for much less than the £11m they paid to sign him from Cologne but his disappointing form in Serie A has convinced Galatasaray that he is not worth the trouble.
“Podolski is not on our radar right now,"Hamzaoglu told TRT. "He was in the winter but not right now.”
The lack of effort
Podolski is one of the most clinical strikers in the European game and has incredible power with his left foot.
However, the 30-year-old has regularly been criticised by Arsenal fans for his lack of application on the football pitch.
Wenger himself proved that he was no longer a fan of the Germany international after marginalising him from the Arsenal squad in the first half of the season.
He failed to start one Premier League game, but came off the bench seven times before moving to Inter Milan.
In 17 appearances under Roberto Mancini, Podolski managed to score just one goal, convincing the Italian to send him back to north London.
A problem brewing
Arsenal now face a tough task getting him off the books and may even have to offer him to clubs for free.
It is exactly the same situation Wenger found himself in with regards to Nicklas Bendtner, who ran his £52,000-a-week contract at the Emirates down because he could not find a club willing to match it.
Podolski has just one-year remaining on his Arsenal deal, but should Wenger fail to sell him this summer, that is over £5m that he will lose to paying a fringe player.
Should Arsenal agree to give Lukas Podolski away for free or keep him as a fringe player for next season?
