Inter Milan have been boosted after star-striker Mauro Icardi committed his future to the club earlier this week by signing a new four-year deal.
The Argentinian international had been strongly linked with a move to the Premier League this summer, with Chelsea reportedly very interested in signing him, but he has said no to the chance of English football.
Premier League Interest
As well as Chelsea, it was reported that Liverpool and Manchester United were also showing interest in the 22-year-old but after months of negotiations, he has finally chosen to stay at the San Siro with Roberto Mancini's side.
It was reported earlier this month that Icardi's wife was set to take over the talks in order to wrap up a deal, and the two parties have finally agreed terms on a new four-year deal which will keep the striker in Italy until 2019.
A statement on Inter's website read: "FC Internazionale is pleased to announce that Mauro Icardi has inked a new contract with the club.
"The Argentine striker's new agreement runs until 30 June 2019."
The star-striker had been valued at around £32 million after a stunning campaign with the Italian side, netting 22 goals in total and finishing the season as joint top goalscorer alongside veteran Luca Toni.
"Everybody wants to play in Europe, but I'm happy here with Inter," Icardi told Sky Sport Italia.
"I hope we can keep getting better and the club are working on building an even more competitive squad next season.
"I've always said that I want to stay with Inter. My contract renewal's not so straightforward, but we are working on it and I'm confident. I think there will be more news in the coming week.
"Hopefully we will reach a point where we can sign and all be more relaxed about things. We will sort it all out soon, at the latest after the holidays."
Busy Summer for Inter
Mancini is set to undergo a mass squad overhaul this summer in order to resurrect Inter Milan to the club they used to be, and he will be delighted that Icardi has chosen to stay at the club.
Several big names have already been linked with a move to Inter, with Yaya Toure, Nani, Juan Cuadrado and Robin Van Persie all on Mancini's radar.
