Manchester United fans have expressed their excitement on social media after the club’s latest signing Memphis Depay produced an excellent assist for his Netherlands teammate Klaas-Jan Huntelaar.
Playing from the left wing, the 21-year-old whipped in a delightful cross for Huntelaar, who broke the deadlock in the international friendly against the United States.
Manchester United have agreed to pay PSV Eindhoven £25 million for Depay - and on the evidence of his excellent first-half performance it looks like money well spent.
Depay, who finished as the top scorer in the Eredivisie this season, is not only brilliant at scoring goals - he’s also capable of setting them up, as this latest footage shows.
United fans on Twitter now believe they have a major talent on their hands and can’t wait to catch their first glimpse of the versatile winger in a red shirt.
'Depay will be the next CR7'
One user compared him to former Manchester United star Cristiano Ronaldo, writing: “Memphis Depay is going to be the next CR7”
Another wrote: “Whenever Memphis Depay has had the ball for Netherlands something dangerous has happened. Direct tricky and quick. Fun to watch. Always.”
While this tweet summed up the general feeling amongst the Manchester United faithful: ”Watching Depay right now is getting me really hyped to see him next year at Old Trafford."
Of course, performing well in the Eredivisie and international friendlies is entirely different from performing when it matters in big games for Manchester United, one of the biggest clubs in world football.
But Louis van Gaal knows him well - they worked together with the Oranje at the World Cup finals last summer - and the veteran Dutch coach is confident he can help Depay to fulfil his immense potential at Old Trafford.
Update: Depay scores
Memphis Depay has scored the Netherlands' third goal of the evening - although how much he knew about it we're not quite sure.
